(GOLDEN, CO – March 23, 2020) –
As Colorado continues to navigate the ever-changing climate of Coronavirus with cases in the state, Foothills Animal Shelter is actively preparing for an increased intake of pets from owners that have tested positive for COVID-19. Over the weekend, the Shelter received their first Animal Control agency intake of 3 pets whose owner tested positive and thus, hospitalized.
In preparation for additional COVID-19 intake cases, Foothills Animal Shelter has moved as many pets into foster homes while the remaining pets at the Shelter continue to receive necessary medical care, dog walking and enrichment, and being cared for by the essential personnel permitted in the building. Should Foothills Animal Shelter become overwhelmed with pet intake, we are prepared to expand our foster pool through staff and volunteers that do not currently foster as PACFA (Pet Animal Care Facilities Act) has allowed a temporary exemption from performing home visits prior to fostering.
Foothills Animal Shelter advises anybody needing to find temporary shelter due to hospitalization for their pet to first contact family or friends. In the case that an individual residing in Jefferson County does not have anybody to care for their pet to contact their Animal Control Agency. Pets brought to the Shelter will be thoroughly bathed and quarantined in a separate area of the building for added precaution. If you live outside of Jefferson County, please contact your local Animal Control Agency.
To help the Shelter and the pets in their care, they are asking for donations to be made on their website at FoothillsAnimalShelter.org/donate. They are unable to accept any in-kind donations at this time.
