Item Donations

Your product donations directly help the animals we care for. Please keep our list in mind when moving, cleaning or shopping!

Save a trip to the store and order online from our Amazon Wish List or our Chewy Wish List. Items can be shipped directly to Foothills Animal Shelter at 580 McIntyre St., Golden, CO 80401.

Donations that cannot be used by the shelter may be donated to other animal welfare organizations.

FAQs

Where / When can I donate?

Our donation drop-off area has moved! Donations can now be delivered to the drop-off shed located in the back of our parking lot near the garage gate. The drop-off shed is accessible during our normal business hours, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. seven days a week. No appointment necessary. In-kind donation acknowledgments are available in the drop-off area.

What items are most needed?
  • Wet cat food
  • Dog & cat treats
  • High-value dog treats (canned chicken, chicken baby food, hot dogs)
  • Plastic pet carriers
  • Gift cards to PetCo, PetSmart, Amazon or other pet supply stores
  • Litter boxes
  • Dog leashes
  • Cardboard cat scratchers
Can I donate used items?

Yes! We can accept used items such as:

  • Pet beds
  • Blankets without stuffing
  • Unexpired dry, and wet, food or treats – regardless of the brand or type
  • Towels of any size
  • Pet crates
  • Aquatic and terrestrial critter supplies
  • Toys made for animals
  • Collars, leashes, harness
What items can Foothills Animal Shelter not accept?
  • Expired food (please check out Colorado Pet Pantry)
  • Food that is not stored in its original packaging or container
  • Sheets, comforters, or pillows
  • Mattresses, mattress covers, furniture, or furniture cushions
  • Used litter boxes and litter box accessories
  • Cat trees
  • Carpet remnants
  • Used rabbit supplies
  • Used bird supplies
What can I do with pet medications?

We are able to accept medications and unopened and unused administration supplies (syringes, etc.).

If you have expired meds, please visit the following locations to safely dispose of them in the area:

  • Sheriff’s Office/Jail Lobby, 200 Jefferson County Parkway, Golden
  • South Precinct, 11139 Bradford Road, Littleton
  • Mountain Precinct, 4990 County Highway 73, Evergreen
Is my donation tax deductible?

Yes! Please see a staff member if you would like a tax receipt.
