Pet License

Licensing your dog is required in unincorporated Jefferson County and in the cities of Arvada, Edgewater, Lakewood, and Wheat Ridge.

Please note: The online Tag Lookup page is temporarily out of order. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience. If you have found a stray pet who is wearing a Jefferson County Pet License tag and are looking to help reunite them with their owner, please call either Foothills Animal Shelter at 303.278.7575 or your local animal control agency.

Cats and other pets can be voluntarily licensed through our program and must be renewed each year.

A license not only helps get your lost pet home, it also supports Foothills Animal Shelter so we can continue our life-saving care to thousands of homeless animals. This program is brought to you in partnership with your local animal control and management agencies.

Additional benefits include:

  • Supporting your community’s homeless pets as part of your license fee goes directly to Foothills Animal Shelter.
  • Being contacted immediately by an Animal Control Officer if they find your lost pet. In many cases, our Animal Control partners will bring your pet directly home if found with a license.
  • Avoiding a fine for having an unlicensed dog in the above-mentioned cities.

Please note that license processing time may take up to two weeks.

For more information or for support, please visit our licensing portal (if the page does not open, please clear your search history then try again). Any questions can be directed to [email protected] or 303-278-7575.
