As an open-admissions shelter serving Jefferson County, we see all sorts of animals here at Foothills Animal Shelter – mostly dogs and cats. But of the 600 unusual pets that entered our shelter last year, over 100 of them were barnyard animals. We’re talking chickens, roosters, goats, pigs and more.
That said, we are not currently set up to provide them sufficient habitats. You will find many chickens indoors, and pigs and goats are often held in dog kennels while in our care. What the cluck?!
We are incredibly proud to announce that our partner The Golden Civic Foundation has offered to match all donations up to $7,500 to make our barnyard dream come to life. Not only will this new adoption center provide better environments for these special homeless animals during their shelter stay, but we also dream of a space where our community can tour and learn more about how to care for these types of pets.
